Town of Nutcrackers and Schnitzel

After visiting bustling cities, Heidelberg was a well-needed change of pace. It is a small, medieval town known for the handcrafting of nutcrackers and assorted Christmas ornaments. It was once the center of Romanticism in Germany, home to many acclaimed poets and philosophers. Now, it is a peaceful college town with ancient architecture and  traditions.

Visiting Heidelberg was relaxing. In the two days we had here we biked around the ancient streets, took a trolley up to the castle, which overlooks the small town, walked from shop to shop, and made the most of less than ideal weather.
